Does your skin feel completely clean after washing your face at night? Are you really getting all of that makeup off… are you sure?!
Let me be honest I was really struggling with this recently. I was trying makeup remover wipes, micellar water, and a makeup remover solution. Still I wasn’t sure that all of my glam was coming off 100%. I wear makeup nearly everyday so that can create a problem when makeup residue builds up over time. I could tell that I wasn’t really getting my skin clean when I saw breakouts and also an increase in texture.
If you can relate to this then I’m sharing what I use to double cleansing, when and why. It’s not a new concept, but it isn’t used by everyone so it’s worth chatting about so you can try this for yourself.
First thing first double cleansing is using a cleanser prior to cleansing with your normal face wash to break down the impurities on the skin. It’s more than using a makeup wipe. Double cleansing is a little more thorough.
- You only need to do this at night. Why? This is the time where your skin has the most impurities on the skin, i.e. makeup and impurities from the environment. This will also helps to keep your skin’s natural oil balance in check.
- You should find a product that suits your skin type. I have combination skin and opted for an oil base which a little bit a gamble since my skin can be oily. The gamble was worth it.
- I recently used Fourth Ray Beauty BFD Cleansing Oil. It’s only $14 and is a good size. I have used micellar water in the past and honestly is did not seem to work and completely breakdown the makeup that I use. However, the BFD Cleansing Oil breaks down all of my stubborn makeup so EASILY!
I just use about 3 pumps of product, massage into the skin then wash it all off with my cleanser. I follow up with normal serum and moisturizer then I’m all set! I haven’t noticed any changes in skin texture, oil production, etc. I can really see my skin’s natural vibrancy after my skin care routine. This is a photo of my skin post cleansing below.
