When I think about my wardrobe from my recent trip to Boston I think about how this sweater dress saved my LIFE in a fashion way! How have I gone through life without one?! It does hit the criteria for a home run since it is timeless, flattering, and versatile. If you’re still without this fashion gem maybe you are wondering how to style a sweater dress? I have a simple outfit formula for a sweater dress that will have you looking fall chic!
Outfit Formula
First we have to pick the dress! I picked out this tie waist dress by Vero Moda, because it flatters a multitude of body shapes. The dress is also one that can be worn in many settings. This sweater dress is available in 3 colors (black, grey, tan) that you will be able to wear year after year. Low key I think I need all three colors! Another great thing about this dress is that it’s not too heavy! Where ever you live you can wear this dress.
The next part to putting this look together are the shoes. With the shoes you can take your sweater dress in a few directions:
- Cool and easy with a sneaker
- Polished and elevated with boots or booties
- Whatever you do skip the sandals or any overly summer shoe. It just can look strange and you’re too chic for that!
In this photo we opted for the bootie essential fall bootie. This Oshay Bootie by Marc Fisher LTD that I scored on the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. The heel height is wearable, but still elevates the look as a whole. You can mix in prints on your shoe choice for a bit more personality and to add contrast. Just have fun!
Lastly we add in accessories! Accessories story tell, add more interest, and simply complete any look. It’s not about haphazardly piling them on rather more so about intentional additions to your look. Stick to 2 categories because you don’t want to overwhelm your outfit. As you can see I opted for jewelry and a hat. If I were in a cooler climate I would swap out the jewelry for a scarf so I can keep a little more warm. Choose from the list of accessories categories below for the easiest styling:
- Jewelry
- Scarves
- Belts
- Hats
