As you look around your home do you ever wonder how to customize your home like you see on Pinterest without spending a fortune? Oh me too! I see beautiful counters and accent walls that can only imagine having myself. Luckily I’ve found some handy hacks and will share 3 easy ways to customize your home to share with you. By the end of this post you’ll be ready to give your space a little facelift and be Pinterest goals!
Countertops
We can agree that everyone loves the look of a high-quality marble countertop! However did you know that marble is not only expensive to install, but it’s also pretty hard to maintain? Marble countertops are an investment when you first install them and down the road so be prepared to invest in the maintenance. Nevertheless, if you are looking for a hassle-free countertop option, you can either choose quartz or a different, easier material. If you go this route, you will still run into the upfront cost. To save time and money upfront, you could always look into other options such as a butcher block (you may have to get this professionally installed depending on your skill level). Even better, there are stick-on “countertops” that look like real marble so you can get the look for less. Just visit your local home improvement store to find these. This option is so quick and easy to do yourself. Plus, they are affordable! Do keep in mind: if you add them to your kitchen, do not cut on them! Always use a cutting board!
Faux Brickwork
The timeless look of brick will always be in, in my opinion, and I love how people are starting to add it into their homes. You will see it surrounding a fireplace, as backsplash, and even as accent walls (or an entire brick wall). When you add it to your home, I personally feel like it significantly upgrades it and gives it a slight classic edge. Like a real marble countertop adding real brick accents into your home is extremely costly. Plus, you absolutely have to hire the job out and it takes a lot of time to do. Let’s not forget the construction dust because it is crazy!
The good news is that there are companies such as Faux Brickwork that offer the look of brick. You will get the look without the cost, time, and effort that it takes to install traditional brick. They offer high-quality faux brick wall panels and they are leading supplier of faux brickwork to the domestic and commercial world supplying faux brickwork. Their brick solution is found in many luxury homes, bars, restaurants, nightclubs, offices and retailers. In the past, you have only seen faux brickwork on film sets, but now Faux Brickwork makes it possible to buy it yourself to use in your home or business.
How to install Faux Brickwork
So, how easy is it to install and customize your home? Well, first of all – it is super lightweight! The Faux brick panels are made from plaster, which makes them authentic visually and it also makes them lightweight, making installation fast and simple. You can simply install their brick panels using their install guide that comes with your delivery of faux brick panels. All panels are designed to slot into one another and can be secured with adhesive, screws or staples. You can easily hide joints and paint the brick if you wish. If you feel like you can’t install it yourself (even though you can because it’s super quick and easy!), you can always hire the job out.
Shiplap
If you have been hiding under a rock, you might not know how popular shiplap has become recently. However, those who have been brave enough and try to tackle it know how difficult and timely it can actually be to install. If you want a shiplap wall, maybe you dread all of the work and time that would be required to customize your home. From cutting sheets of plywood into strips or hanging tongue-in-groove planks one by one, the handy work adds up. It’s a daunting task – I won’t sugarcoat it. The good news is that there is a way to save time and effort when it comes to creating a “shiplap” room or wall.
What’s the secret? Paneling. Yep, plain old ordinary, everyday paneling. You might remember when paneling was “in.” Some homes even still have it and when people look at photos of a home for sale with paneling, they think about ripping it all out. I’m here to tell you if you give it a shot, there is a way to update it and make it look very similar to shiplap – without all of the effort.
First take your dimensions and run to your local Home Depot or Lowes. Then, once you get back, you will have to attach it to the wall, caulk it all, and paint! While it isn’t the easiest and fastest project in the world, it is so much easier than shiplap!
To attach it to the wall, run construction adhesive around all four sides of each piece of paneling, plus a few dabs in the middle. Then use a nail gun, nail it in, but keep holding it in place with your hands until the adhesive dries. If you don’t have a nail gun, they have small nails (that are made especially for paneling) that you can use with a hammer. When the paneling is in place, every seam and joint can be caulked and then the entire wall can be painted using a white paint.
There you go – shiplap hacked!
Now only one question remains… Which way will you customize your home?! I’m excited to try the faux brickwork for myself since I live in an apartment and think that it will give a city vibe to my home!
Don’t forget to share this post with your friends and I will talk to you all soon.
